About Me
I’m the Everyman Economist, but who am I really?
My name is Allan Rosenberg and I spent 28 years of my working life on Wall St and the surrounding areas. In fact, my first job right out of college was at 48 Wall St where I worked for Merrill Lynch as a securities trader. That lasted 7 years before I joined a group of entrepreneurs in the purchase of our own securities company. That was quite a successful ride, but I left too early and went on to manage a securities trading desk at a large British bank. In the meantime, my former company was sold to a major Australian bank for a whopping $125 million. OUCH, what a missed opportunity! But my career was still in high gear, as I became President of Midland Bank’s securities company, as well as Head of their Treasury and Capital Markets areas. Finally, I moved to Credit Lyonnais, a supersized French bank, where I served as Senior Vice President and Head of their Treasury and Capital Markets areas. All in all, I have been involved in trading and sales of US, Canadian and Latin American government, corporate and municipal securities, mortgage-backed securities, high-yield securities, asset-backed securities, global foreign exchange trading and sales, interest rate derivatives and credit derivatives trading and sales, as well as underwriting, loan approvals and various other areas of the financial landscape. About the only place I escaped was the equities market, although I have had my own funds invested in that marketplace for quite some time.
By 1999 I had my fill of the Wall St life, so I left to pursue a start-up business on the Internet. I was very optimistic about the future of Internet commerce, as I continue to be today, and I wanted to get in on the ground floor. I had always been a coin collector and loved looking at world history through the imagery on coins. After dabbling a bit on eBay and other auction sites, I decided to plunge in with my own e-commerce website. The rest is history. Today, Coinland.com is one of the largest Internet coin dealers with significant revenues and a large customer base. Coinland has turned over many millions of dollars in coins and coin supplies and the company has worked closely with large corporate sponsors, the American Idol TV show and many other licensed programs.
My extensive backgound as a financial professional, entrepreneur and businessman gives me a unique perspective on how money is made, lost, spent and saved. My journey has been long and exciting so far and now I would like to share my knowledge and experience with you. And that is why I am your Everyman Economist.
